Spinners And Winners ~ Las Vegas, March 2014
3/12/2014
Jim Fitzgerald
Welcome back to Spinners and Winners! On Sunday Brad Keselowski completed the weekend sweep, as he had won on Saturday as well. So, who else won, and who else spun?
Spinner: Starting this week off on a bad note, the passing of William Clay Ford, Sr., the last remaining grandchild of Henry Ford.
Winner: Robin Leach for pronouncing Kasey Kahne’s name correctly. No Can, No Con, but Cane!
Spinner: The Million Dollar Quartet’s version of the National Anthem. I’ve never heard a quartet butcher the Anthem as this foursome did…and there are five of them.
Winner: Well, there’s the Most Interesting Man In The World saying the Four Greatest Words in Motorsports!
Spinner: Josh Wise…already? Keep your chin up, kid.
Winner: The Captain made a Hole in One while he was playing golf this week? I got close to a Hole In One once. I put it right on through the windmill and bounced it off of someone else’s yellow ball and it stopped about three inches away from the clown’s mouth.
Spinner: The big deal making of the No. 43 pressuring the No. 10 of Danica Patrick.
Spinner: Oohhh, Keselowski slightly scraping the wall…but
Winner: It wasn’t that bad.
Spinner: What’s with so many commercial? It just seems like there have been a lot in this race.
Winner: Danica Patrick running better than 30th.
Spinner: Austin Dillon’s interest levels, apparently. Sorry, kid. Maybe you have to win the pole every week to get continuing coverage? BUT…
Winner: Austin Dillon for being the top Rookie again.
Winner: Look at Paul Menard go!
Spinner: The official cause for all four cautions of the race being “debris.” At least it wasn’t a whole lot of car parts scattered about as the debris.
Winner: Front Row Motorsports for continuing its tradition of hiring only drivers named “David” with the announcement that Reutimann has joined the team, along with Ragan and Stremme.
Winner: NO super-late caution which would trigger NASCAR to bring out the jet dryer and clean the track with precious few laps remaining.
Winner: Dale Jr. looking like he is going to lock up that spot in the Chase with win No. 2.
Spinner: Dale Jr. running out of fuel such a short distance from the finish, and now perhaps sharing a spot in the Chase with Car No. 2.
Winner: Steve LeTarte’s stock going up as an ex-crew chief turned TV man who was precise in his calculations. (See T. Brewer; L. McReynolds; A. Petree)
Winner: Brad Keselowski for leading the most laps of the race by one…the last one.
Spinner: Those who thought Brad Keselowski was crying when he was in victory lane. Beer in the eyes stings, kids.
Checkered Flag Winner: Brad Keselowski for winning the Kobalt Tools 400, his first win of the 2014 season.
That's all for this week! Feel free to add in your own Spinners and Winners from last weekend as well! Until next time....
